MRT commuters are in for a pleasant surprise as audioWAV, along with the Department of Transportation and Communication and Metro Rail Transit Corporation, launches the MRT Audio Global System or MAGS. MAGS is an advanced communication system inside the MRT trains that primarily airs announcements about each train’s next stop. It will also air other helpful safety and courtesy reminders for passengers during the course of the trip and upon their arrival at the train station.
As a service coming from the premier Out-of-Home or Instore Radio provider in the country, MAGS features customized announcements that are digitally precise and professionally produced. “We expect this new system upgrade to revolutionize the riding habits of commuters,” said George Castro, audioWAV VP for Operations. Currently, the audioWAV is actively developing new audio systems and technology for use in Philippine mass transport services.

It wasn’t another EDSA Revolution, but you could have mistaken it for one with the sight of all the overflowing people.
A total of over 120,000 Filipinos stood together to join the Chowking Grand Fireworks and Free Concerts event held simultaneously across five provincial locations as part of Chowking’s Chinese New Year festivities.
The massive event handled by audioWAV’s events team was held last Feb. 9 in Lucena Quezon, Angeles Pampanga, Bacolod, Malolos Bulacan and San Jose Nueva Ecija.
In San Jose, the northernmost city of Nueva Ecija province, a record crowd of about 50,000 flocked to the Constancio Padilla National High School where the event was staged, prompting event organizers to close the gate late in the show to prevent over- crowding.
“It was worth it. We were able to communicate with a huge number of people through the event,” said Mr. Richie Manayon, one of Chowking’s senior marketing managers.
The big bash sponsored by the food chain showcased the top bands namely Freestyle, Kamikazee, 6 Cyclemind, Rivermaya, and Spongecola.
It also featured over 20 front acts, popular Radio DJs such as Nicoleyala from Love Radio, and sought-after comedians like Le Chazz, Ferdie, Chiokla, Magica and Donita.
As a major highlight, an incredibly colorful spectacle welcomed the Chinese New Year. An amazing fireworks display capped the 5-hour shows much to the extreme delight of Chowking’s special guests and locals alike.
In parting, Mr. Manayon related that Chowking stores close to the event venues are now closely monitoring customer visits over the next three months to gauge the impact of this annual event, which is now on its third year.
In the third year of its annual Chinese New Year events, Chowking attracted a record audience of 50,000 at the San Jose City, Nueva Ecija segment of its simultaneous five-province Grand Fireworks and Free Concerts on February 9, 2008. The record was previously held by Chowking’s Puerto Princessa, Palawan Grand Fireworks and Free Concert segment last year with a capacity crowd of 25,000.
Organized and run by audioWAV, the San Jose show featured two very talented local front acts: Karding Sungkit from San Jose and Playbox from nearby Cabanatuan City. It also featured TV and comedy bar comedian, Le Chazz, as well as superband Rivermaya and a 5-minute musical pyrotechnic display not unlike that seen at the World Pyro Olympics. Hosted by popular radio DJ David Ryan of GV-FM Cabanatuan City, San Jose came out in force to enjoy an unforgettable night of music, laughter, prizes and frieworks at the Constancio Padilla National High School open field. Gates opened at 6:00PM with the first band going on-stage at 7:30PM. By the time Rivermaya started their performance, the gates had already been closed because the venue had filled to capacity. Thousands more listened to the concert from outside. A security force of over one hundred policemen, military soldiers, special operations groups, professional bouncers and utility personnel maintained peace and order.
Former Mayor Attorney Alex Belena, the husband of Mayor Marivic Belena, stayed and enjoyed the night after his opening remarks – a rare occurrence according to his personnal staff. The concert ended at midnight after a spectacular fireworks display that elicited continuous “oohs”, “ahhs” and other gleeful exclamations of delight. Audience members left the venue in a very peaceful and orderly manner with many saying that it was a truly unforgettable and amazing experience for them and the city of San Jose.
Mr. Richie Manayon, one of Chowking’s Senior Marketing Managers said that he was extremely happy with San Jose and thanked the people and its municipal government for their support and for coming out to watch . He also gave credit to the audioWAV and Chowking team for organizing and running a smooth, peacefull and successful San Jose segment despite the massive turn out.
audioWAV CEO Caloy Hinolan and WAV Records GM Ann Angala Shy showcase a winning attitude as they iron-out the details for the launching of the new music label on March 2008.
audioWAV is set to hit a high note in the music industry with the debut of WAV Records, its own music label.
WAV Records will be officially launched on March 2008 as audioWAV seeks to play an active role in the promotion of Filipino artists and the distribution of its music primarily in the Philippines and in the Asia-Pacific region.
“We want to hit it locally and internationally,” said Ann Angala Shy, general manager of WAV Records and a 15-year veteran in the Philippine music industry.
“I’ve seen the talents of our Filipino artists and they are truly world-class,” she said. “It’s time to export Filipino music.”
The music label, which is backed by audioWAV’s technical expertise in recording and radio production, is now actively making partnerships with other independent and major music labels in the Philippines and abroad.
WAV Records is now also scouting for top-class local and foreign artists to promote, added Shy, former manager and promoter of top bands such as The Dawn, Eraserheads, Barbie’s Cradle and Asin, among others.
This would also include local musicians who carry a mass-appeal and can make a heart-warming connection with the Filipino masses.
Kadangyan, an up-and-coming ethno-tribal rock group, Chong, a Rock-Pop-Reggae band, and Los Angeles-based Stella’s Notch compose the initial line-up of bands under WAV Records.
